On My Knees

Sophia cleaned the polished wooden table in the office humming her favorite  gospel song.  She moved to the leather seat and dusted them as well.  She then moved back to the table and started arranging the documents on the table. She then lifted the portable flower vase sitting at the edge of the table.  As she was about dusting it.  The door screeched open causing her heart to miss a beat since she wasn't expecting anyone.  She then dropped the flower immediately and held unto her chest as she watch the person come in.
Lo and behold it was  a young man in his mid thirties.  He was wearing a brown suit.  His hair was carved nicely.  His beard was also carved nicely.  He was very handsome.  Sophia stood fixed to the spot as she admired him
He came and stood in front of her and then they both stared at the broken vase.
"Good... Good morning Sir,  how may I help you?" she managed to say.
"What recklessness,  how dare you handle stuffs around here so carelessly! " he raged.
Sophia became the more  surprised.  Who was he to scold her in her work place.  She then decided to put him in his place.
"Look sir,  that was  just a mistake but you are not suppose to work into an office without knocking" she tried to defend herself.
"You expect me to knock before entering my own office. So this is how you lousy workers have been malhandling things over here. Don't worry,  I will deal with you" he said as he pushed her out of the way and made for the seat.
He then placed a call from the telephone on the table.
"Hello,  pls come here immediately" he said as he dropped the phone and began unzipping his hand bag.
Vera came running into the office.
"Yes sir, " she said panting while shutting this door.
"I want you to deduct the price of this vase from her salary. Am I understood?  he blared.
"Yes sir," Vera replied.
Sophia stood watching confused. She tried to plead but words failed her.  She has been working in the office for 3 months and hasn't met this new boss who is so blunt.
"I am sorry sir, " she managed to say.
"Will you pick up those broken stuff and get out of my office! He ordered as she quickly packed the pieces of the broken glass and made her way out of the office.
As she walked soberly past Vera's office,  Vera noticed her and stopped her.
"Sophia,  how did this happen,  why did you break the vase? " she asked.
"It was a mistake,  he walked into the office taking me unaware.  I know our boss doesn't resume on time, I wasn't expecting him to arrive that early" Sophia explained.
" Look,  he is the son of the boss and our new boss.  Mr.  Lawrence won't be handling this company anymore,  his son is in charge now,  you have to get use to it and adjust.  Mean while,  I will try to plead with him so as not to deduct your salary but you must be careful next time" Vera lectured.
Sophia was surprised at what Vera told her.  Her former boss, Mr Lawrence was a jovial and understanding man while his son is the complete opposite.  But she couldn't deny the fact that he was very handsome.
She only hoped to get use to his attitude so as to enjoy her job.

Deadly Love Quest Chapter one by Genevieve Nwokolie

CHAPTER ONE As the heat from the rays of the sun scorched, the  birds fluttering around the branches of the waving trees  sang. Dikachi and Oluomachi worked tirelessly as they  weed their father’s farm. They’ve been working on the  large portion of land for a week now, while their parents  were tending another one. Dikachi who was bent down working suddenly dropped her  hoe and heaved a sigh. Oluomachi too stood upright and  turned to her sister saying. “What is it? Don’t tell me you want to rest again” “Ah, I’m hungry oh! Papa should have highered workers to  assist us, this farm is too big for the two of us” she said  and then searched for a suitable place to sit. She spread a piece of cloth on a log and sat down. Oluomachi wiped the sweat streaming down her forehead  and replied; “You know how things are for papa now, he has a project  at hand which is the barn he is currently building, and he cannot afford to employ workers for this month. You know  their charges a

"You and your friends are very kind. I never knew we had  such good people as you in this village,” remarked Dikachi.  “Well, that is how we are. We are trained to do good and  defend our people and please, don’t say another word. I can see you’re very tired,” Dikachi nodded in reply as they walked along the bush path. Each time they came across anyone on the road and  greeted the person with eyes already fixed on them both, the fellow would not take off the eyes on them even after  they’d passed them. What rang on their mind was; whatcould be going on with Okwudili, the son of Ikemba, a noble man and the daughter of a man unable to bear a  son. Some group of girls who were on their way to the  stream also marveled as they came across them and gossiped as they continued on their way to the stream. Soon they passed a piece of farm in which three girls were weeding. One of them who came out to drop a basket of cassava saw them from behind. She took a full view of  Dikachi and Okwu
